Founded in 2016, Red Umbrella Tours Helsinki provides the original 11:00am Free Tours in Helsinki. We aim to employ only students/young unemployed persons in the city, offering the opportunity and experience to work in a fast paced tourism industry. All guides are specifically chosen for their out-going personalities, interest in history and culture and for their environmental beliefs.

We believe that the environmental impact of our own activities should be reduced as much as possible, and as a tour provider we have an ethical responsibility to be environmentally friendly. Additionally, Finland is known as one of the greenest and most beautiful cities in the world - and we want to help protect this rare landscape.

We have vowed to only ever give walking tours on foot. This is because Helsinki center is a small area, and can all be easily accessed by walking. To get to the areas a little more outside of the center, the public transport system here is excellent and very cheap - and every corner of the city can be accessed by the frequent public trams, buses, metro, and trains. Bicycles are also available, and we have a great cycling network!

In addition, on the route of our Free Tours, we always try to minimise our disruption in the city too. We don't take visitors into private businesses or universities, and we avoid other groups and crowded areas. Our guiding speakers are only ever set to a volume that is necessary for the groups to hear the guides speak. We believe that this is the correct way to operate in Helsinki.

We hope that you will join us with our ethical mission, and help to reduce your own environmental impact during your stay in Helsinki by taking a Free Walking Tour with us!
